Eco What?

I still remember the day when my younger son’s guinea pig just went bananas when he smelt fresh carrots from all the way across our apartment.  For a while I couldn’t figure out what was going on.

Back then we lived in Clifton, NJ, USA.  We got back from Corrado’s Family Affair Food Market.  Nobody really goes by the official store name.  It’s simply too long.  We were just back from Corrado’s with loads of veggies, fruit and all sorts of other edible goodies from all over the world.

At first I didn’t pay attention to the guinea’s squealing.  I thought that my son was playing with him.  No, they weren’t playing.  The animal simply smelt carrots in the kitchen.  We had carrots at home from other stores before, they would dry out in the cage without a single bite mark on them.

This time was different.  These carrots were real!  These carrots, organic or not, eco-whatever or not, were simply non-toxic, non-synthetic, nutritious, tasty, healthy and good to eat.  I didn’t need any testing.  I didn’t need any “organic seal of approval”.  Piggy Wiggy was the best judge that the carrots were eco-true and truly organic.  You can trick me with fancy labels, but you won’t trick Piggy’s nose and tongue!  Since then I am a true believer in eco- and organic.  The down-to-earth way!  The way food was before we needed to start using the terms eco- and organic to substitute the words non-toxic and nutritious.
